ISSUE #1                                           SPRING 2005

EDITORIAL

We're underway!

As an e-Magazine, we're committing to a regular quarterly publication schedule. This is the Spring issue, published in mid-March. Subsequent issues will appear on line in mid-June (Summer), mid-September (Fall) and mid-December (Winter). Interim editions may be necessary to accommodate current events along the River. If you would like to be notified of significant updates, just send us an e-mail to that effect. If you have already received notices from us regarding the Kennebec River Communities and this web site, you are already on the Notify list.

The main thrust of this e-Magazine won't be realized until all of the nineteen River Communities are represented with content specific to each one. Don't wait for us to knock on your door - although we may do that from time to time. A brief history of your town, a discussion of special events scheduled there for this summer, comments about issues relating to tourism and the River all are welcome.

On the horizon for this web site is a virtual trip down the Kennebec. As far as we can tell, this will be a truly unique Internet experience. You'll be able to click on dozens of spots along a map of the river and be instantly transported to a high resolution photograph of the river from that point.

Finally, we want to assemble a core group of writers who are willing to take on an occasional assignment from Ye Ed or who are interested in initiating an article or essay on a topic of special interest to them. These articles will focus on (but will not be limited to) the following specific topics:

Recreational boating, fishing, sightseeing; ecological and conservation issues specific to the River; historic preservation and sites along the waterway; commercial interests dependent on the River; community development of picnic and recreation areas; and suggestions for promoting interest in and awareness of the river.

If you would like to write about any of the above subjects, or others we haven't mentioned, please get in touch!
