FAQ
Who
runs this site?
This
site is owned and managed by Robert Demers, of Gardiner,
Maine. It is a personal initiative, a labor of love for
which he receives no material remuneration.
Why
did you start this web site?
The
inspiration for this web site was the Kennebec River Historic
Waterway project defined by the legislature in 2003 and
further developed by the KRHW Conference.
Who
is the site intended for?
The
site was created for the citizens of the nineteen communities
sharing the shoreline of the Kennebec from Waterville and
Winslow to the sea and anyone else interested in those communities
and the priceless treasure that runs through them. This
coverage will eventually be expanded to include the communities
abutting the river all the way to Moosehead Lake.
What
do you hope to accomplish with this initiative?
Our
hope is to stimulate community and personal enthusiasm for
The River by offering Kennebec River-related information,
insights, viewpoints and humor not generally available on
any other web site. We hope to inspire others towards public,
private and personal initiatives of benefit to The River
and its communities. An Ideas Page will help to stir your
imagination.
Who
writes the content?
Articles,
essays, news and anecdotes are invited from anyone who has
something to share that is directly relevant to the Kennebec
River. All submissions will be considered and appropriate
ones will be printed on the web site as space permits.
What
are the criteria for subject matter to be considered for
publication on the site?
Full
details can be found on the Authors Guidelines page, but
generally speaking, subject matter may be historical, contemporary,
humorous, fact or fiction. Photos, artwork and drawings
are encouraged. However, all material must be relevant in
some way to the Kennebec River.
How
often is the site changed?
This
is a quarterly magazine (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter).
Between regular issues, the site may be updated if subject
and timeliness of new content warrants. Folks who wish to
be notified when significant new material is posted may
request an update notice by sending a blank email to: notify@kennebecrivercommunities.com
Do
you print stories about businesses and other commercial
interests?
Articles
about new or expanding businesses that are uniquely related
to The River will be evaluated for publication on the nature
and extent of that relationship. If a reference to a business
is only incidental to a river-related article or anectdote,
with no 'puffery' or promotional characteristics, there
should be no problem with such references.
What
about paid advertising?
There
are some out-of-pocket expenses involved in maintaining
this web site so we are currently looking at ways to help
us recover some of those costs. In the meantime, businesses
and organizations interested in supporting this initiative
with paid advertising should contact me directly.
How
do you relate to the many ecological, conservation and other
similar special interest groups around the state?
Though
highly supportive of all such groups, we are totally independent.
We will watch all kindred web sites closely and (with permission)
link to or reprint materials relevant to the Kennebec River
Historic Waterway. Officials of Maine-based conservation
and historical organizations, or Maine chapters of national
organizations who would like to be included on a special
links master page should contact us.
What
can we expect to see on the individual Kennebec River communities
pages listed in the left panel of each page?
These
pages will offer content that is unique to each community.
Residents who are interested in being a 'stringer' for their
home town should contact us. From that point we'll dialog
a bit and see where it leads.
